Boys and Girls Club of Harlem Kicks Off 40th Anniversary
The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem kicked off its 40th anniversary with a breakfast on Thursday featuring WABC 7’s Sandra Bookman.
Taking place at Lenfest Center for the Arts at Columbia University, announcements for the anniversary included creating the Forty for 40 Ambassadors list comprised of local and national artists, celebrities, entrepreneurs and philanthropists to support the organization.
BGCHarlem was started in 1980. The Rev. M.L. Wilson, Lewis M. Cofield and the parishioners of the Convent Avenue Baptist Church set out to create a home where Harlem youth could learn and grow.
In 2016, the organization opened a new 10,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse with an expansive Teen Center and administrative offices.
