BGCH Black Panther GoFundMe Campaign Inspires National Challenge

January 22, 2018

New York resident Frederick Joseph wanted to give back to his community. When he realized the highly anticipated “Black Panther” film was scheduled to hit theaters next month, he saw his opportunity.

To make sure area youth of color got a chance to see the film – which features an African-American hero – Jones decided to raise funds so a few hundred kids from Boys & Girls Club of Harlem could see it for free.

His original goal was to raise $10,000 toward the effort; as of today, the total stands at $42,000 and climbing. Meanwhile, the story has taken off nationally, thanks to media outlets such as The Root, BuzzFeed, CNN, HuffPost, Today ShowABC, CBS and the New York Daily News. And to top it all off, the initiative was featured on today’s episode of The Ellen Show
